Scratchbord Portrait

Another school project. For this, the assignment was to create an image via scratchbord etching. I very much regret not saving the picture I used so I could show a side-by-side reference, but I think you all get the main idea. It was a nerve-wracking procedure; for those of you who don’t know, scratchbord is a tile of white clay covered with India ink, which is gently scratched off to create a white-on-black picture. A little bit of pressure goes a long way.
