The Formosa Girl

Two years ago, I was given an assignment in my Illustration class to come up with a matching set of three objects. In this case, I ended up with series of decorative posters.

As you can see, they’re all variations on the same drawing. I took a slightly labor-intensive approach early on by using layered Bitmaps to simulate the look of vintage lithography.

The dolphins in the background are early versions of my current mascot.

Formosa (from Latin Formosus, “Beautifully formed”) is a personal concept I have that drives my sense of aesthetics. It’s my escapist ideal world, or at least the sum total of everything I find good and lovely and inspiring about this one. In this particular case, its a smiling girl in a pretty dress with her hair blowing in the wind.
