AIGA

I’ve been volunteering since 2022 with the local Portland chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, otherwise known as AIGA . AIGA is the oldest, and as far as I know, only the only graphic design professional organization in the US, and as a volunteer-run group it goes without saying that there’s plenty to keep me busy! I’ve been on the website and content committee for some time, assisting with various site maintenance tasks and of course providing graphics when needed . . .

A welcome banner for summer and winter, respectively. The beard-bodied man is a goofy little idea that’s been knocking around for a long time; I almost never use this style. The heavy cartoon exaggeration, gaudy colors, and single-weight lines are usually not my first choice, but it is VERY ‘Portland. Always a good exercise to hop out of the comfort zone. The second one is reference to the Portland weather that we all know and love. and is a little more typical of my style. Both were executed on Procreate.

dMob, or Design Mob, is a monthly networking event organized by AIGA Portland for designers of various stripes in the Portland, Oregon area. It generally takes place at one of the many local breweries in the Portland area, and consists of a couple hours of drinking and amiable schmoozing with one’s design peers. The banner above is another web element similar to the first two but specifically for dMob page.

I also recently completed a T-shirt design project for the twentieth anniversary edition of dMob. For a last minute request, I’m quite proud of how it turned out. To maintain brand consistency I used the abstract topographic lines from the banner image superimposed over the “20.” The name tag, of course, is a signature feature of this and many other networking events, and helps add context to the design. Above are my finalists.

The final product, after a few edits from the team. Here’s to another twenty years!
