I finally got around to scanning and coloring this one.

I’ve been fairly busy lately with my portfolio. I’m proud to say that its coming along well, with a lot of my sketches being reused as templates for creating vector-based images for new projects. Here’s an example, created from a shoe I drew a few posts back . . .

This is actually an earlier sketch, with a bit of photoshop added. I decided to revisit it because it has more significance in relation to the rest of my illustration, as its main purpose is to convey emotion, rather than just to say “Hey, here’s a face I drew.” A wonderful piece to look at. I’d love to trace it and turn it into something more complete, but it would lose the sublime, spontaneous style that can only really happen in the moment.

If executed correctly, a uniform can be one of the most dramatic symbols of power. That’s why I think I’ve always loved them.

Formosa, Queen of the Sea and Sky.

Drawn from memory. Can any of my tango friends recognize the brand? There should be a little charm hanging from the ankle strap . . .

A vision I’ve had for a long time. Imagine a lush, sprawling garden, with fountains, grottos, follies, and ancient weeping willow trees over a placid river. Can you imagine all the garden parties and Victorian delights that could be enjoyed in such a setting? This is just a small piece of it . . .

One night I got bored and started a project. I had a vision of a white pigeon sailing through a clear summer sky, with a precious message attached to his leg for a very particular person. He glides down into a courtyard of a stately manor house, and from there? We’ll see if I can figure out where to go with this.

Staying busy . . .
