Portfolio work — the Dynasty Trilogy

Portfolio work -- the Dynasty Trilogy

This is series of book covers I designed for my Graphic Design portfolio class. No actual story to go with them, sadly– just a vague “Hero’s journey” premise. Fairly simple to produce, too– like much of my other stuff, I simply Bitmap’d an inked drawing, created different colored “plates” on separate Photoshop documents, and then overlaid them to get that cool lithographed look.

Inky Little Faces

Inky Little Faces

A full page of faces that I’ve been needing to post for a while now. I used a dip pen and india ink for the lines, and experimented a little more with ink wash for the shading.

Yes, they’re mostly bald, but hair is such a godawful pain. . . 😉

Tango lines

Tango lines

Due to a pronounced lack of decent tango reference photography , I used a screenshot of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK1ccWeU3gA I originally meant to use them as reference only, but now that I think of it, I might as well count this as fan art, plain and simple. Carlitos is barely visible, but I think we’re all quite happily focused on Noelia anyway. Although I plan on redoing it at some point, I think it turned out quite well, all in all; despite all the imperfections, it captures that deliciously fluid, twisty quality that makes tango magical. I doubt that this will be my last tango-themed sketch. . .
