As I teased about earlier, I’m proud to present a new project! This is my first stab at a graphic novel, which I intend to make into a full length series some day. For now, however, it makes a good portfolio piece.

A small sample of what I’ve been working on lately; my first successful attempt at a graphic novel. More to come 🙂

I finally got around to scanning and coloring this one.

I’ve been fairly busy lately with my portfolio. I’m proud to say that its coming along well, with a lot of my sketches being reused as templates for creating vector-based images for new projects. Here’s an example, created from a shoe I drew a few posts back . Â . .

One of several older pieces that I’ve polished up for your viewing pleasure. The description from the original post:
In many classic villains, there’s a sense of torment or inner conflict– a humanizing element that makes them more compelling to the audience.
Not so in Villainous Villiam . . .Â
This dastardly character takes an almost childlike delight in cruel and malevolent deeds. Not as shred of doubt exists in his mind that diabolical wickedness is not only fun and profitable, but that everyone should try it!
Be it kidnapping busty maidens, laughing at fat children, or gleefully stomping on flowers that have been watered by the tears of suffering widows, our Villy is living proof of what happens when you don’t go to church. Don’t be like him, folks . . .

This is actually an earlier sketch, with a bit of photoshop added. I decided to revisit it because it has more significance in relation to the rest of my illustration, as its main purpose is to convey emotion, rather than just to say “Hey, here’s a face I drew.” A wonderful piece to look at. I’d love to trace it and turn it into something more complete, but it would lose the sublime, spontaneous style that can only really happen in the moment.

Drawn from memory. Can any of my tango friends recognize the brand? There should be a little charm hanging from the ankle strap . . .

A vision I’ve had for a long time. Imagine a lush, sprawling garden, with fountains, grottos, follies, and ancient weeping willow trees over a placid river. Can you imagine all the garden parties and Victorian delights that could be enjoyed in such a setting? This is just a small piece of it . . .
